Capcom dates online-enabled edition of 1999 arcade fighter for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network.
Capcom announced Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con and took the opportunity at this year’s event to date it. The publisher today confirmed that Third Strike Online will arrive on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 downloadable storefronts “beginning August 23.”
More than just a port of the 1999 arcade game, Third Strike Online will feature a revamped user interface to take advantage of the HD capabilities and a handful of visual filtering options. Beyond changing the way gamers see the game as they play, Third Strike Online will change the way others see them play with YouTube replay sharing. Capcom is incorporating YouTube functionality into the game that will let players upload their match replays to the video streaming service “with the click of a button.”
Capcom is incorporating GGPO technology for the game’s online functionality, the same netcode under the hood of the Final Fight: Double Impact package released last year. The publisher has also promised unlockable rewards for the game.
When it arrives, Third Strike will sell for $15 (1,200 Microsoft points). For more on the game, check out GameSpot’s previous coverage.
