Comic-Con 2011: Activision confirms Beenox-developed action adventure will arrive this fall on 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS.
SAN DIEGO–Spider-Man: Edge of Time now has a firm date on which it is ticking toward. As part of Activision’s preview event tonight, the publisher said its latest installment in its webslinging action adventure franchise will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and 3DS on October 4.
With Activision-owned studio Beenox now the primary developer on the Spider-Man franchise, Edge of Time spans multiple iterations of the Marvel-created universe–namely, the contemporary Amazing Spider-Man universe and that of Spider-Man 2099. The latter is based on a 1992 comic series, which introduced an alternate future version of Spider-Man. The Spider-Man 2099 series was scripted by famed Marvel writer Peter David, who is also penning the plot for Edge of Time.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time will task players with saving the life of Peter Parker in the modern-day Spider-Man universe in order to prevent an errant timeline from creating a bleak, apocalyptic future. The game will feature “cause-and-effect” gameplay, where one Spider-Man action will affect the other Spider-Man’s timeline.
With Comic-Con 2011 setting up shop in San Diego this week, Activision has released a new trailer for the game, which can be found below. For more information, check out GameSpot’s previous coverage of Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

The game should also kick off a parade of first-party titles for the 3DS that should stretch through the end of the year. Comic-Con: THQ bringing new robot game to Microsoft’s and Sony’s download stores this fall with five-player co-op; Behaviour Interactive handling development.
In February, THQ announced that it had partnered with Voltron license holder World Events Productions to develop new games in the franchise. Now, the publisher has announced the first title in the partnership, the downloadable Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Due out this October on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, the title sports single-player as well as online cooperative play. Defender of the Universe–which will cost $10–boasts online co-op for up to five players, with each gamer suiting up as one of the five lions of the Voltron Force. Players can also team up to form Voltron and wield his mighty sword. Additionally, the game sports two-player local co-op.
The game is coming out in conjunction with Voltron Force, which will debut on Nicktoons in the US and will tie in to a pair of action-figure lines from toy maker Mattel. The first toys will be based on the original Voltron series and should arrive this year, with a Voltron Force-specific line scheduled for 2012.
Defender of the Universe is currently in development at Behaviour Interactive, the team behind the downloadable title Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime and film tie-in Rango.
