After teasing “future plans” for crossover fighter, publisher said to be rereleasing game with 12 new characters, $40 price.
Source: Comic book and nerd-culture enthusiast site The Quarter Bin.
What we heard: It’s pretty clear that Capcom has something up its sleeve for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at Comic-Con 2011. Both Capcom and Marvel will be hosting panel discussions at the event, and producer Ryota Niitsuma is scheduled to be on hand to deliver “fantastic news” about “future plans” for the crossover fighter. Now, it appears as if the companies’ big announcement will be a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 redux, complete with an expanded roster and budget price point.
The Quarter Bin reports that Marvel and Capcom will announce Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at next week’s San Diego event. A rerelease akin to Super Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will reportedly include 12 additional characters on-disc, two of which will be the previously available downloadable fighters Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath. The original MVC3 included 38 playable characters on-disc.
Despite the added content, Capcom is apparently lowering the price for the game’s rerelease. The Quarter Bin indicates that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will carry a $39.99 sticker tag, a move that falls in line with SSFIV’s discount rate.
The official story: Capcom had not responded to a request for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus: Looking not bogus. Capcom has a long tradition of rereleasing its fighting games with gameplay tweaks and expanded content, to substantial success. Expect more information at Capcom’s Comic-Con panel, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23. Marvel’s talk will follow shortly thereafter at 12:30 p.m.

Child of Eden also struggles.
Suda51/Shinji Mikami collaboration Shadows of the Damned is having a hellish time of it at retail.
According to Joystiq, the EA-published actioner only sold 24,000 copies in its first month on sale in the US. In comparison, chart-topper L.A. Noire shifted 419,000 during its second month on the shelves.
The game, which won a sturdy 7/10 from Eurogamer’s Simon Parkin, has also struggled in the UK, debuting at a dismal number 31 in its first week.

Capcom to add 12 new fighters?
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will debut at Comic Con in San Diego next weekend, according to insider sources.
An anonymous tipster for comic site The Quarter Bin claims that the title is an expanded version of this year’s crossover brawler. There will be 12 new characters included, bringing the roster up to a total of 50 fighters.
The source doesn’t reveal who those might be, but given that Frank West and Doctor Octopus files were spotted on the original disc, they seem likely inclusions.

Velvet-sheathed bundle of Reality Pump role-playing game and Pirates of the Flying Fortress expansion also includes world map, pin, bonus disc with soundtrack, maps, artwork.
Two Worlds II is getting a double-dip. TopWare Interactive today announced an October 18 release date for the Velvet Game of the Year edition of Reality Pump’s well-received open-world role-playing game.
The bundle will include the original version of the game as well as its upcoming Pirates of the Flying Fortress expansion and will come in premium velvet-wrapped packaging. The PC and Mac versions of the game will sport black velvet, with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions wrapped in red. The added enticements won’t be strictly external, as the compilation will also feature a double-sided world map and pirate head pin that’s also included in the game itself. Finally, a bonus disc will feature the game’s soundtrack and two extra multiplayer maps, along with assorted artwork and videos.
Though TopWare bills the bundle as a Game of the Year edition, a company representative could not point to a specific publication bestowing a Game of the Year award on Two Worlds II. The game launched in November 2010 in Europe and Asia, but it didn’t arrive in North America until January of this year.

WayForward’s side-scrolling take on Majesco’s half-vampire damsel arrives August 30 on PSN, August 31 on XBLA.
Last month, Majesco told investors that BloodRayne: Betrayal would launch by the end of July. While not quite qualifying as a betrayal, the publisher has pulled an about-face on that statement, announcing today that the downloadable game would arrive for the PlayStation Network on August 30 and Xbox Live Arcade on August 31.
Unlike the previous 3D installments in the BloodRayne franchise, Betrayal is a side-scrolling 2D action game. However, the title will stay true to the series’ tradition of copious amounts of gore, as the eponymous half-human, half-vampire protagonist cuts a swath through a horde of evil(er) undead with the help of a sword and a pistol. In addition to her conventional ordinance, BloodRayne has her vampiric powers to fall back on, infecting enemies with her unique ailment and causing their bodies to explode in a viscous shower.
Developed by WayForward Technologies, BloodRayne: Betrayal will be the first Xbox 360 or PS3 title for the studio, which has to date specialized in Wii and handheld games. The developer has worked on a number of recognizable and critically well-received titles, including Contra 4, Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The Videogame, A Boy and His Blob, and Lit.

North American ratings board sheds new light on portable sci-fi action platformer game; WayForward Technologies indicated as developer.
Sega currently has a pair of Aliens titles in development. Gearbox Software is handling Aliens: Colonial Marines and Creative Assembly is at work on an unannounced series entry. However, it appears Sega has also commissioned a third Aliens game, this one for the DS.
According to a recent classification by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, a T-for-Teen rated side-scrolling franchise game called Aliens: Infestation is on the way for Nintendo’s portable.
Though not yet officially announced by Sega, a rating by the Australian government from May indicates that WayForward Tech (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, A Boy and His Blob) is handling development of the game.
The ratings description states that Infestation will have players controlling a space marine squad as they run and jump through side-scrolling levels. Additionally, the listing indicates players will “use rifles, pistols, flamethrowers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers and aliens (i.e., ‘xenomorphs’).”
As of press time, Sega had not responded to GameSpot’s request for comment.
