You know the drill.
And so it continues. QuakeCon is the latest outfit to fall victim to hackers, with forum users’ personal information compromised by a recent “unlawful intrusion”.
A post on the event’s website explained that an old forum had been breached, laying bare usernames and passwords.
“In recent days, a hacker carried out an unlawful intrusion of the old forums.quakecon.org site, compromising usernames and passwords,” read the announcement.

Will make games “for the foreseeable”.
Epic Games, creator of the Gears of War series and the Unreal Engine, will never become a publisher, despite some believing it is the next natural step for the company.
Why? Because it doesn’t want the hassle of being responsible for game developers making money.
“We’re never going to be a publisher, which in some respects you would think is the natural next step for somebody like ourselves, who have become so large and have touched so many developers,” European territory manager Mike Gamble told Eurogamer at the Unreal University event in London today.

Rovio “not going to ignore Kinect, Move”.
Rovio has told Eurogamer it is “looking at every console” as a potential nest for Angry Birds, despite having criticised Xbox Live, Nintendo and even console gaming in the past.
Rovio’s vice president of franchise development Ville Heijari’s sweeping “every console” statement entails Wii U, 3DS and PlayStation Vita as well as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“We really haven’t looked into the Wii U specifically yet – we haven’t announced anything for Nintendo consoles yet. But if you look at the control methods, if you look at the Wii U, I mean that’s a really, really natural match, so obviously we’re very interested in developing there as well,” remarked Heijari to Eurogamer.

The downside of being so big.
Bethesda won’t offer a public demo for huge open world role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
The game’s too big and too hard to offer in microcosm.
“No, we won’t be doing a demo,” stated Bethesda producer Craig Lafferty to Gameplanet.

From Bulletstorm, Witcher 2 vets.
There’s a new PC exclusive FPS in town. It’s dark sci-fi called Hard Reset and it’s made by Flying Wild Hog.
Alarmingly, the game’s due out in September, two months from now.
Who is Flying Wild Hog? A 35-person Polish studio made by former Bulletstorm (People Can Fly) and The Witcher 2 (CD Projekt) veterans.

Tuesday, two per person.
It won’t be as big as the Eurogamer Expo 2011, but the lavish Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles will probably attract a few stragglers.
Tickets go on sale for Call of Duty XP on Tuesday, 19th July. We knew that. But now Activision has added a time: 10am PST / 6pm BST / 7pm CET.
Tickets cost $150 / £93 / 106 each. (Eurogamer Expo tickets only cost £10 just saying.)

“Great experience,” says Tim Schaaff.
Is-he-mad president of Sony’s network entertainment Tim Schaaff has referred to the great PlayStation Network hack as “a really good time”.
Schaaff believes it was more beneficial for Sony to deal with the fallout of the intrusion – placating and reassuring irate customers – than to prevent hackers ever getting in.
“Great experience, really good time,” Schaaff said of the hack to GamesBeat.

Popular side-scrolling MMO playable on Facebook; closed beta session reached maximum capacity.
To say that Nexon’s MapleStory MMO is a widely-played game is an understatement: the title has more than 100 million players worldwide, with the highest number of concurrent users in Korea being 417,380. Nexon is now eyeballing another target: Facebook users. The MapleStory franchise will be taking a right turn into the realms of social gaming with MapleStory Adventures, which will be out on July 27.
Essentially, the game is a browser-tailored version of the 2D-perspective action MMORPG. New features in this version include the ability for players to invite their Facebook friends to complete quests with them, as well as the chance to send gifts to them in forms of stat-boosting and leveling-up items. The recent 11-day closed beta test of the social game reached its beta cap of 30,000 players. CEO of Nexon America Daniel Kim stated that the company sees the social network site as a promising market for future Nexon products, with the MapleStory franchise leading the charge.
MapleStory isn’t the only major RPG franchise to take a turn into the social gaming vista. Bioware’s Dragon Age and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series also have their respective Facebook spin-offs: Dragon Age Legends and Knights of the Crystals.
