Dishonored: Bethesda’s new assassination game reacts to your level of violence (Dishonored)
Jul 13, 2011Dishonored, Bethesda’s newly-announced action-adventure, positions itself as something different. Led by Thief designer Harvey Smith together with Arkane head Raphael Colantonio and Viktor Antonov (who designed City 17 for Half-Life 2), the new project offers a fairly boilerplate story, featuring regal betrayal and supernatural powers. However, developer Arkane intends to use this setup – you play as a framed bodyguard who’s secretly a master of stealth, and even more secretly a talented magician – to make Dishonored more interesting than the standard sneaking-and-neck-breaking fare… …

The depth of Super Meat Boy’s nostalgia-friendliness goes beyond the game’s throwbacks to retro references. Such is the title’s power to cast players back to the bygone 8-bit age that Super Meat Boy has also revived that age’s wealth of clone games. The title sees a particularly shameless knockoff in the form of iOS title Tobor, whose developer readily admits to drawing inspiration from Super Meat Boy. And while Team Meat’s Edward McMillen says he doesn’t mind, he warns that Apple is doing little to stop this new abundance of clone titles on its platform… …

2K Game’s decision to transform the classic turn-based strategy series XCOM into a first person shooter understandably left fans wondering what the studio was smoking when it sat down to plan the 2012 reboot. That’s why we’re fans of Valve, a company that has a knack for striking a balance between exciting announcements and special behind-the-scenes details for its community. A great example of the latter can be seen on the Team Fortress 2 Blog, which includes outtakes from the recently released “Meet the Medic” cinematic. Check it out for some insight into the creative process behind the uber awesome portrayal of the sinister surgeon’s characterizing short film – and see what never made it into the final version… …

Publisher said to have picked up Unicorn Parade shop for “low price” following bids from multiple companies.
Last year, Electronic Arts acquired Angry Birds publisher Chillingo for $20 million, and the year before that, it picked up Playfish for as much as $400 million. Now, the publisher appears to be adding a new creature to its stable: unicorns.
Venturebeat reports today that EA has purchased Unicorn Parade shop Ohai. Terms of the deal were not divulged, but the report states Ohai was sold for a “relatively low price.” Kabam, Tencent, Perfect World, and Aeria Games also reportedly bid on the studio.
Ohai was founded by Susan Wu in 2008, and it’s now run by CEO Rex Ishibashi. The studio is located in San Francisco, California, and builds browser-based social games.
As of press time, EA had not responded to GameSpot’s request for comment on the purported acquisition of Ohai.
