Commander Keen remembered.
Veteran members of legendary developer id Software last night celebrated the 20th birthday of its first game: Commander Keen.
The side-scrolling Super Mario-esque PC game is the earliest work produced by the id team, predating first-person shooter classics Doom and Quake.
It launched on 14th December 1990, two months before the company was officially founded.

Japanese censors raise content rating.
The shower scene in upcoming PlayStation Portable game The 3rd Birthday is so steamy it has forced Japanese censors to raise the game’s content rating.
According to producer Yoshinori Kitase, the shower scene teased last week with a solitary image “really toes the line”.
It’s so provocative that CERO, Japan’s game rating organisation, raised The 3rd Birthday’s content rating from C to D, Japanese magazine Famitsu reports (translated by 1UP).

To beef up the 200-odd premium flock.
More cars in the Gran Turismo 5 garage are to be given the premium treatment, according to creator Kazunori Yamauchi – which means they’ll soon be more detailed and allow an interior view.
Of that garage, 811 of the 1031 vehicles are only available in standard form.
Yamauchi, talking to Famitsu magazine (read by Andriasang), didn’t say how many would be updated, but clearly he has a mountain of material to work with. He also didn’t give a timeframe for the update.

Irish PlayStation 3 owners received a BBC iPlayer rival yesterday when Sony added the RTE Player to the console.
Eurogamer reader Andrew Matthews alerted us to the addition, and was kind enough to send in a shot of the RTE Player in the PS3s XMB, which you can see below.
RTE is the Republic of Ireland’s answer to the BBC. Boyzone’s first telly appearance was on RTE’s Late Late Show in 1993.

Adaptation of sci-fi novel on indefinite hold.
Chair Entertainment, the developer behind Shadow Complex and Infinity Blade, has put Ender’s Game on indefinite hold.
The reason? It didn’t match parent company Epic Games’ vision for original games.
“We have and had an amazing design for the Ender’s Game game,” co-founder Donald Mustard told Joystiq, but “one of Epic’s primary objectives is to create original and unique franchises. I don’t know that Ender’s Game fits into that strategic objective anymore.”

Inafune shows off Comcept business cards.
It looks like former Capcom R&D boss Keiji Inafune is about to resurface with his own new company.
According to Siliconera, Inafune has been handing out business cards for his new outfit, called Comcept.
One of these cards got into the hands of a Japanese securities analyst who then duly rushed home and tweeted about it.
