Sonys spy-themed PlayStation 3/PC massively multiplayer game won’t arrive until latter half of next year, says SOE CEO John Smedley.
Sony’s spy-versus-spy massively multiplayer PlayStation 3 and PC title The Agency was first unveiled at D.I.C.E. 2007 under the working title “Vista.” Months later, it was officially uncloaked as The Agency, a persistent online shooter in which players can step into the world of international espionage.
At the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, The Agency associate producer James Karras told GameSpot the title is taking an “it’s done when it’s done approach.” Now, it appears the game won’t be done until the second half of next year.
Speaking with gaming blog Kotaku, Sony Online Entertainment CEO John Smedley revealed that The Agency won’t arrive until late 2011. “There was a moment in time in our company where we looked at our own stuff with a clear eye and saw we have to do better,” Smedley said. He referenced SOE’s DC Universe Online, which also suffered a delay, and noted how pushing that title has benefited that project. “DC Universe was held for a year-and-a-half from when we wanted to launch it, and now I’m very happy with it.”
The Agency has players working for one of two main factions with the ultimate goal of controlling the world. As should be expected of a game that seeks to put players in the role of a Fleming-esque hero (or villain), The Agency will feature adventures in far-off lands, assassinations, illicit drug trade, sabotage, undercover sleuthing, and betrayal.

Capcom’s handheld action RPG goes double-platinum first week on the market in Japan; series sales stand at 15 million.
Any doubts about the enduring popularity of the Monster Hunter series in Japan were erased this past week. That’s when Monster Hunter Freedom 3, known as Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in the island nation, sold 2 million units since going on sale December 1. The shipments appear to be even ahead of publisher Capcom’s optimistic estimates, which predict the PSP game will eventually sell 3.6 million units. Since 2004, the Monster Hunter series has sold over 15 million units, mostly in Japan.
A sequel to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (known as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G in Japan), Monster Hunter Portable 3rd offers new hunting areas and monstrous prey. It also sports a new Feylene system, which allows players to customize their companions’ equipment loadouts when embarking on hunts. The game also sports the same ad-hoc co-op mode that has made the series so popular in Japan.
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has no US release date as of yet. For a closer look at the game, check out its trailer from this year’s Tokyo Game show, viewable below.

Blizzard’s considering it.
Blizzard would like to make World of Warcraft expansion packs more quickly, and is considering making smaller expansions in order to release them more often, designers Greg Street and Dave Kosak have revealed.
Blizzard has so far released an expansion pack every two years, but an 18-month schedule is “certainly a goal, we would like to get expansions out very quickly because we know players respond to them very well,” lead systems designer Street told Eurogamer in an interview marking the launch of third expansion Cataclysm.
Earlier in the game’s life, Blizzard said it aimed to publish an expansion every year, but “we’re not anywhere close to that now,” Street admitted.
