Rumour: Singularity, Jedi Knight dev working on Bond game. New lease of life, or kiss of death? (Singularity)
Dec 7, 2010So it’s being rumoured that Raven Software, the Activision-owned developer of the criminally under-promoted Singularity, is hard at work on a unannounced Bond game that had previously been stalled by MGM’s financial troubles. I don’t know whether to happy about this story or not. Reasons I should be: Raven have previously been said to be reduced to Call of Duty DLC monkeys since Activision ensured that their excellent time-travelling FPS didn’t sell. Reasons I shouldn’t be: A Bond game tends to be the kiss of death, however good your studio is.
Seriously, Activision giving you the Bond license is like being given a massive cake for your birthday, only to realise it’s your 30th and you’re in Logan’s Run. Hopes and fears? I have plenty of both. Click on. …

No, really.
There’s something fishy about a new clue from BioWare regarding the identity of its unannounced new game, and we mean that quite literally.
The latest in a long line of binary codes posted on the publisher’s Facebook page links to an image of a red herring.
So to recap, the following things all relate somehow to the Mass Effect studio’s next title, due to be revealed at the Spike VGA event this weekend:

Stealth-based title from Wolfenstein team.
Development on a sidelined Bond game at Singularity developer Raven Software is back on again, according to reports.
Earlier this year it was revealed that one of the developer’s two internal teams the one responsible for 2009’s so-so Wolfenstein reboot – had been pulled off an unannounced 007 title by publisher Activision to help make map packs for Call of Duty, while another finished up Singularity.
However, according to James Bond fansite MI6, the game is now back on following news that US courts have firmed up bankruptcy plans for Bond studio MGM.

Move-friendly puzzle sequel drops in.
The Move-only sequel to fiendish 2008 PlayStation Network puzzler echochrome will be available in the US on 21st December, Sony has confirmed.
While the rather excellent original saw you shifting the perspective of a set of platforms by rotating a level with an analogue stick, echochrome ii puts the Move controller to good use.
Producer Kumi Yuasa told the PlayStation Blog, “The blocks and objects you see in each level will cast different shadows depending on your movement so as you alter the perspective and angles by adjusting this light source, you will manipulate the shadows they cast to ultimately reveal a solution to the puzzle and guide your character to the exit.”

Do stuff, earn progress points.
There’s a new Quest system heading to the PlayStation Rewards scheme, Sony has announced.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the new system will reward you with progress points for successfully completing various grueling tasks.
For example, the “No Place Like Home” quest asks you to visit the central plaza in PlayStation Home, “Check Your Pulse” demands you watch PlayStation Network’s Pulse in HD and “Move It” is completed by booting up a Move title.
