Shadow Guardian looks rather familiar…
The first trailer has just popped up for Shadow Guardian a new iOS adventure developed by Gameloft and it’s left us with a serious case of deja vu.
There’s a distinct whiff of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed Uncharted franchise wafting around the clip, which you can check out below.
The game apparently follows the adventures of heroic everyman Jason Cole as he embarks on a globe-trotting adventure in search of powerful ancient artifacts. Sounds familiar.

Roasted prosecutors drop their case.
A first-of-its-kind court case brought against an alleged Xbox 360 modder has been dismissed after the judge gave prosecutors a 30 minute dressing-down.
As reported by Wired, US district judge Philip Gutierrez bellowed that he had “serious concerns about the government’s case,” adding, “I really don’t understand what we’re doing here.”
He then criticised prosecutors of 28-year-old Matthew Crippen, who was accused of two counts of violating the anti-circumvention provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, for calling witnesses who could also be guilty of criminal behaviour themselves.

Switches classic tunes for vuvuzela barrage.
Ubisoft has instituted a novel measure to combat freeloaders looking to pirate the DS version of Michael Jackson: The Experience: it’s figured out a way to make hacked ROMs play a vuvuzela chorus over the classic Jacko tunes.
Tiny Cartridge spotted a YouTube clip that shows a pirated version of the game rendered unplayable by the obnoxious buzz of the South African horn. Not only that, but crucial on-screen prompts aren’t displayed either.
Nice try Ubisoft but we’d imagine a spot of vuvuzela might actually enhance a few of Jackson’s later numbers. Earth Song, say.

Wedbush’s Michael Pachter believes that Microsoft’s motion-sensing system has overtaken Sony’s; two platforms expected to have 8-million-unit installed base by year’s end.
This week began with Microsoft announcing that the Kinect has sold 2.5 million units worldwide in 25 days. Sony quickly followed suit by saying that 4.1 million PlayStation Move controllers had shipped–not sold–worldwide.
Now, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has weighed in on the matter. “Interestingly, the higher priced Kinect controller appears to have overtaken the Move controller in the sales race, with sales about even notwithstanding Move’s six-week head start in the marketplace,” he said in his latest investor note. The Move starter pack retails for $100, while Kinect rings up at $150 in the US.
By year’s end, Pachter thinks that the Kinect and Move combined installed base will be 8 million units. He also gave his vision of how the two companies’ motion-control battle might play out in the near future. He thinks that Microsoft intends to drop the price of the 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle from $300 to $250 in the spring. He believes Sony will then respond with a $300 PS3 Move bundle–the same price the console costs by itself right now.
If the aforementioned price drops occur, Pachter estimates the two devices’ combined installed base could reach 20 million to 25 million by the end of 2011, resulting in 40 million to 75 million units of software sales. He predicts Move and Kinect hardware and software sales will total $500 million to $800 million in 2011, or around 2.5 to 4 percent of industry sales.
Pachter also mentioned that he believes the Move system–including the EyeToy camera and controller–costs an estimated $40 to make. A recent tech-analysis firm report pegged the manufacturing costs of the Kinect at $56 per unit, way down from the $30,000 the original prototype reportedly cost.

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston to reprise respective roles as the God of Thunder and his half-brother Loki in next spring’s tie-in to comic book blockbuster.
When Marvel Studios releases its Thor feature film next spring, the Norse God of Thunder and his nemesis Loki will be portrayed by mere mortals Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, respectively. As if bringing gods to life in a believable manner weren’t a tall enough order for the pair, Sega today announced that the actors will also be lending their likeness and voices to the upcoming game tie-in to the movie.
Although it will feature the stars of the film, Sega’s Thor: God of Thunder will be an original action adventure that draws inspiration from the Asgardian Avenger’s numerous four-color exploits. The game will be set in the Marvel worlds of Norse mythology, with Ulik, Ymir, Surtur, and other foes providing Thor with opposition in addition to Loki.
Hemsworth is best known as playing the role of Captain James Kirk’s father in the opening scene of last year’s Star Trek revamp. He is also set to appear in a remake of Red Dawn and reprise his role as Thor in a film based on the Marvel superhero team The Avengers, currently set for 2012. Hiddleston has enjoyed success on stage and in TV series like Return to Cranford and Wallander, which starred Thor director Kenneth Branagh.
While the announcement ensures the film’s two biggest roles will be faithfully replicated, there are a number of notable actors in the film’s supporting cast that may go unrepresented in the game. Sega did not confirm if stars like Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Renee Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, or Tadanobu Asano would be lending their likenesses or voices to the game.

Assault Heroes developer Wanako Studios prepping Sanctum of Slime for PSN, XBL, PC next spring.
The Ghostbusters are back in business. A USA Today report has taken the wraps of Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, a downloadable sequel set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC next year.
According to the report, the game will be a cooperative adventure game playable online or offline by up to four players, with screens depicting a top-down view as opposed to the previous game’s over-the-shoulder approach. Despite the change, the game still has ties to that title as the campaign once again puts players in the jumpsuit of the squad’s newest rookie. That might be the only familiar (human) face, as none of the original Ghostbusters actors from the films are set to appear in Sanctum of Slime.
The game is in the works at Wanako Studios, a downloadable developer best known for the Assault Heroes and 3D Ultra MiniGolf Adventures franchises. According to USA Today, Atari and Sony are “teaming up” to release the game. The two companies split duties on the previous Ghostbusters game as well, with Sony handling the European release on its own systems.
