Nintendo’s noodle work-out heading to 3DS?
Dr Kawashima the boffin behind Nintendo’s absurdly successful Brain Training franchise has revealed that a third game in the series is currently in development.
According to Kotaku, neuroscientist Dr. Ryuta Kawashima broke the news in his new book, Goodbye Brain Boom.
No precise details are offered as the doc explains he has a confidentiality agreement with Nintendo but he does reveal that CEO Satoru Iwata didn’t want to release another game in the series until they could achieve “something special”.

Top author says drop games, not bombs.
Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie believes Nintendo holds the key to bringing about ideological revolution in the conservative Islamic Republic of Iran.
The scribe, who famously went into hiding after Islamic extremists issued a fatwah following the publication of his allegedly blasphemous 1988 novel The Satanic Verses, told Big Think, “I often think that the best way to liberate Iran is just to drop Nintendo consoles from the air. And Big Macs.”
“If you look at the opponents of the Iranian regime, the green movement in Iran – that clearly represents a young, liberal, modernising spirit that exists in that country,” Rushdie explained.

Pachter calls platform holders’ bluff.
Microsoft and Sony are manufacturing shortages of their Kinect and Move add-ons to ignite consumer demand, according to retail analyst Michael Pachter.
The Wedbush Morgan motormouth told IncGamers, “Yes, I think both companies would very much like for consumers to believe that their devices are highly sought after and difficult to obtain. That usually works to spur demand.
“Sony shipped 2.5 million units in the U.S. and Europe, and their sales are nowhere near that level, so I’m not sure how they can reconcile the fact that units shipped far exceed units sold.

Donkey Kong! Mario! Sly! BlazBlue!
Don’t say you never get core releases on Wii because look, it’s Super Mario Bros.! Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3, actually. They’re stuffed like chickens into Super Mario All-Stars, a boxset to celebrate 25 years of the portly plumber. There’s even a snazzy booklet to read while you reminisce. And Eurogamer wrote a Super Mario Bros. 3 retrospective at the weekend, so you know it’s good..
The old games don’t stop there: Donkey Kong Country returns this week in, er, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Sly Cooper has come back to life on PlayStation 3! More on those below.
Also of note: the fantastic Air Traffic Chaos under the name of Air Traffic Controller on DS. Simply keep those planes on schedule and not on top of each other or crashed into a tropical island beach. Questionable body scanning and frisking allowed, probably.

Gaming giant moves 900,000 DS units, 600,000 Wii consoles in seven days in the US thanks to limited-edition Mario Anniversary system bundles and new DSi colors.
The House of Mario has 1.5 million more reasons to give thanks, as Nintendo today announced that it enjoyed a bountiful Thanksgiving week of hardware sales at US retailers.
During the week of Nov. 21 through Nov. 27, shoppers in the United States picked up 900,000 DS units (spanning the entire DS family) and 600,000 Wii consoles, according to internal Nintendo sales estimates.
Nintendo said the sales surge during the last week was a product of the limited-edition Mario Anniversary bundles that went on sale on November 7, as well as the new $150 orange and green DSi bundles that debuted on Black Friday. The day-after-Thanksgiving shopping phenomenon marks the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season.
Earlier this month Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, speaking at a presentation in New York, touted Nintendo’s hardware sales performance. Citing NPD data, Fils-Aime had the DS and Wii in first and second place as far as the US installed base goes, with 43.1 million and 30.4 million systems sold, respectively. The next-best-selling hardware was the Xbox 360 (21.9 million), followed by the PSP (17.7 million) and PlayStation 3 (13.5 million).

New release slate led by Junction Point’s Disney mascot platformer for Wii, DS role-playing game; other new titles out include Nail’d, Deadliest Catch: Sea of Chaos.
Last week’s new release schedule was championed by two hotly hyped exclusives: Gran Turismo 5 and Donkey Kong Country Returns. This week follows that up with two long awaited system exclusives of its own.
Leading the charge this week is Junction Point’s Wii-exclusive Disney Epic Mickey. Due out on Tuesday, the title combines elements of the action adventure, role-playing, and platforming genres. Epic Mickey sees Disney’s storied mouse braving the dreary bluffs of the Wasteland, an alternate dimension populated by a variety of characters from Disney’s stable. Mickey must restore the Wasteland with the aid of his trusty paint brush. With the tool, players are able to alter the way the world looks, painting in some areas while thinning others.
Carrying a $50 price tag for the standard edition, Epic Mickey will also be available in a $70 package. The collector’s edition includes a 5-inch Epic Mickey figurine, an Epic Mickey-themed skin for the Wii, and a behind-the-scenes bonus video.
Gamers looking to take their gaming on-the-go this week can pick up Golden Sun: Dark Dawn exclusively for the DS. Dark Dawn asks players to save a reborn world from impending catastrophe with the help of Djinn. The Djinn are magical spirits that can be used to call upon the power of gods, whether it’s to wipe out enemies or circumvent obstacles and solve puzzles. The third game in the Golden Sun series, Dark Dawn is set 30 years after the events of the original Game Boy Advance titles in the series.
Racing fans this week can pick up Nail’d, a multiplatform title due out on Tuesday from Deep Silver. Nail’d marks the publisher’s first foray into the offroad racing genre, and lets players speed around numerous environments either in the seat of an ATV or a dirt bike. Gamers will compete in areas like the Mediterranean seafront, a misty wooded forest, an arctic glacier, and an active volcano.
Those willing to put their life on the line to catch crabs can pick up Deadliest Catch: Sea of Chaos this week for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. From Crave, the title is based on the popular television show, and follows 2008’s coldly received Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm. Sea of Chaos sports 10 distinct campaign options, where players must tackle a number of feats including going head-to-head against Captain Sig Hansen’s Northwestern to see who can catch the most crab in a single season when there are no other boats on the water. The title also includes a number of minigames, where players will collect crab pots, unload the haul, and finally sort the crustaceans.
For further details on the week’s games, visit GameSpot’s New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Dead Space “didn’t hit expectations” either.
Mirror’s Edge, EA’s 2008 parkour-flavoured FPS, “fell short” of the publisher’s expectations.
EA Games boss Frank Gibeau told Develop, “First-person parkour across buildings is fun, but to be blunt, Mirror’s Edge’s’ execution fell short.”
“What I learned from Mirror’s Edge is that you have to execute, you have to spend more time on a game to ensure it’s polished, and you need to have the depth and persistence of an online game,” he explained.

Wii and DS sell 1.5 million in a week.
Nintendo sold 1.5 million Wii and DS consoles in the US last week, with Black Friday deals reigniting consumers’ dwindling enthusiasm for its hardware.
600,000 Wiis were sold between 21st November and 27th November, and 900,000 DSes.
“US shoppers bought about 9,000 Nintendo hardware systems nonstop for every hour of every day during the week of Black Friday,” said Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime.
