No need – Bats is “the ultimate vehicle.”
Hoping for a bit of Batmobile action in the forthcoming Batman: Arkham City? Tough luck – there are no vehicles in the game, developer Rocksteady Studios has revealed.
Speaking to GamesTM, as reported by fan site Arkham City, the game’s director Sefton Hill explained “There aren’t any playable vehicles in the game. What we’ve really focused on is Batman himself. We see him as the ultimate vehicle.”
Precious little info has seeped out so far regarding the much anticipated follow-up to the ruddy brilliant 2009 blockbuster Arkham Asylum.

Lengthy patch process gets underway.
The first in a series of patches for Final Fantasy XIV has gone live, publisher Square Enix has announced.
The update makes a huge arrange of improvements to the much-maligned MMO, including tweaked skill points allocation, improved UI response time and a more accessible user interface. Have a look at the official website for full details.
Square’s MMO came in for some heavy criticism upon release in September with the publisher having to extend the free month-long trial period while it worked on fixes for bugs and faulty gameplay.

Production underway at Ubisoft Toronto.
Ubisoft game developer Jade Raymond is working on Splinter Cell 6 at the publisher’s Toronto studio.
Confirmation comes from Raymond herself in a new promotional video quietly released yesterday.
“We’re working on Splinter Cell 6, the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise, and we’re doing it entirely here in Toronto.”

Criterion will release three cars for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit as a Christmas gift for fans, but only after the game’s launch trailer is viewed one million times.
Three super car convertibles: the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible; Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster; and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition, will be sent down the virtual pipes as a holiday gift only if the launch trailer gets the views the Guildford studio demands.

Shops GAME and Gamestation are offering an extra 20 per cent trade-in value on all hardware.
The offer, which launches today, is designed to encourage gamers to trade-in their unwanted consoles in time for the Christmas spending splurge.
The shop offers this example: trade in a 160GB PS3 Slim and, rather than receive £150, you’ll get £180.

App Store “the wave of the future”.
Developer legend John Carmack reckons game discs will go the way of the dodo in the not too distant future.
id Software co-founder Carmack told The Telegraph he sees digital download services like the App Store as the future.
“Clearly, packaged goods sales are still critical on the big platforms at this stage, but that’s all going to go away sooner or later,” he said.

The Witcher 2 developer CD Projekt reckons digital rights management treats gamers like “criminals”.
What’s more, it’s “doesn’t work”, according to CEO and co-founder Marcin Iwiński.
“Let’s look at Call of Duty,” Iwiński told Eurogamer at a press conference in Warsaw, Poland. “We are frequently checking the torrent sites before making our decisions. The game is out a few days and you have 100,000 people downloading it simultaneously. So it doesn’t work.

Chief of marketing and sales at Ubisoft confirms a new game in the series and details Brotherhood’s sales success.Geoffroy Sardin, chief of marketing and sales in Europe for Ubisoft, has told MCV that the company will release a new title in the Assassin’s Creed series next year.
No details were revealed about the project but Sardin says “more details will be forthcoming”.
