Namco Bandai’s monster-hunting PSP title maintains chart-topping appetite, while Western RPG Fallout: New Vegas scores on both 360 and PS3.
Japanese gamers continue to gorge themselves on God Eater: Burst. For the second week in a row, Namco Bandai’s monster-hunter action game on the PSP has taken top billing on Media Create’s software sales charts for Japan, adding 61,834 more units to its quarter-million week-one tally.
Perhaps more impressive is the debut of Bethesda Softworks and Obsidian Entertainment’s Western role-playing game Fallout: New Vegas. During its first week on the Japanese market, New Vegas sold 37,249 units on the PlayStation 3 and 24,146 copies on the Xbox 360, securing it a double-dipping fourth- and sixth-place finish. The week’s other new debut, Radiant Historia on the DS, slipped in between the pair at fifth with 32,807 units sold.
Nintendo dominated much of the remainder of the chart. Super Mario All-Stars gained a spot week-over-week to secure a second place finish, followed by less than 1,000 units by Pokemon Black and White in third. Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Wii Party, and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn rounded out the bottom of the chart in eighth, ninth, and 10th.
While Nintendo ruled software, Sony maintained its position atop the hardware charts. The PSP and the PlayStation 3 were the best-selling machines in their respective categories during the week, with Sony’s handheld selling 34,538 units and its console shifting 23,524 units. The DSi twins followed, combining to sell nearly 40,000 systems, while the Wii managed to add just 11,521 more units to its lifetime-to-date numbers. The PSP Go, DS Lite, and Xbox 360 were separated by less than 250 units.

THQ creative director Sean Dunn talks marrying story and gameplay in Homefront (Homefront)
Nov 13, 2010Shooters. Their very name implies what you will be doing for the whole game, and that’s busting caps in asses. There might be a tank mission or a chase scene thrown in, but even then you’ll still be shooting at a something. Some of these games are still able to get a compelling story across, like Half-Life, Metro 2033, or even parts of Modern Warfare 1, for example. That said, far too many developers take the lazy way out, making what could have been an otherwise brilliant concept (we’re looking at you Turning Point: Fall of Liberty) into a bland seen-it-once-seen-it-a-thousand-times shooting gallery… …

Pacific Crest’s Evan Wilson thinks Medal of Honor, Fallout: New Vegas, Fable 3, and Force Unleashed 2 combined to push game sales to their biggest increase of the year.
Pacific Crest analyst Evan Wilson today released his predictions for the industry-tracking NPD Group’s October US retail sales figures, and they included a rare bonus: optimism. After seeing software sales slide in seven of the first nine months of the year, Wilson believes October’s numbers will be up a healthy 15 percent year-over-year to $660 million.
Wilson said the gains will be made thanks in part to a relatively easy comparison against October 2009, when sales were led by the PlayStation 3-excluisve Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, with 537,000 sold, followed by Wii Fit Plus (441,000 sold) and Take-Two’s multiplatform shooter Borderlands (418,000 sold). This October, Wilson believes a number of the best-selling new releases topped Uncharted 2’s performance, estimating that Medal of Honor sold 1.25 million copies, with Fallout: New Vegas moving 850,000 games and Fable III another 700,000. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 was pegged at 500,000 copies sold, while the Michael Jordan-fronted NBA 2K11 took advantage of the benching of EA and Sony basketball sims to sell 800,000 copies.
If Wilson’s predictions pan out, it would be the most significant software sales growth of the year to date. Monthly software sales have only been up twice so far in 2010: in March, when new releases God of War III, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Final Fantasy XIII spurred 10 percent sales growth, and in May, when Red Dead Redemption topped 1.5 million copies sold in its first month and pushed software revenue up 4 percent.
Looking a bit further ahead, Wilson projects software sales for November to be flat year-over-year or up slightly. He expects Call of Duty: Black Ops and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood to post roughly the same number of combined sales as their predecessors from 2009, with upside potential from stronger second-month sales of this year’s October releases, as well as a boost from Kinect titles.
Despite possible gains in October and November, Wilson expects the fourth quarter to finish down overall, suggesting a disappointing December for game sales. The analyst pointed to a decline in sales for Nintendo platforms (both in first-party and third-party titles) as a driving factor for his prediction.
NPD’s October sales figures are expected to be released Tuesday afternoon.

HD debut for stylish Wii platformer.
de Blob 2 will launch in the US on 22nd February 2011 for DS, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 .
The news comes courtesy of the game’s official site, which offers no firm news on when the sequel will bound on over to European shores. We’re checking with THQ now for clarification.
The original game, which saw your blob restoring colour to a monochrome city, was a Wii-only affair and very enjoyable it was too. Eurogamer’s Kristan Reed gave Blue Tongue’s eccentric adventure 8/10 back in 2008.
