Nintendo parses statistics on $40 controller; 65.3 million remotes, 52.9 nunchucks sold to date in the United States.
Though the Wii has lagged behind competitors the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in last month’s US hardware sales, it still remains the best-selling current-generation home console. And today, Nintendo provided new statistics having to do with the system’s innovative controllers, the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk.
According to Nintendo, who sourced industry tracking group NPD, since the Wii launched in 2006, the company has sold over 65.3 million Wii Remotes and 52.9 million Wii Nunchuks. That equates to an average of 46,000 Wii Remotes sold per day.
Nintendo broke down the huge figure further, saying that 30.41 million Wii Remotes were included with the Wii hardware, and 12.92 million were sold with Wii Play, the best-selling game ever in the United States. Wii Remotes currently retail for $40.
In terms of color popularity with non-bundled Wii Remotes, Nintendo announced that it has sold 18.56 million white Wii Remotes, 2.44 million in black, 467,500 in pink, and 465,200 in blue.
The other half of Nintendo’s innovative console is its nunchuk controller. And to date, Nintendo has sold 52.9 million nunchuks. The nunchuk currently retails for $20 and is available in both black and white. However, Nintendo did not announce the sales breakdown of both color offerings.
All statistics were sourced to the NPD group and only cover US retail sales through September.
The next Wii controller to hit the market will be the Wii Remote Plus, which will go on sale on November 7 priced at $40. That controller will be sold by itself and in the $50 FlingSmash bundle. It will also be bundled with every new Wii system, including the limited Mario anniversary bundles, beginning on November 7. The Wii Remote Plus combines the original Wii Remote with the MotionPlus add-on.

Reggie Fils-Aime says the iPhone peddler “can hurt us more” than the Xbox 360 platform holder in the competition for a player’s time.
Nintendo of America president has Reggie Fils-Aime has said he considers Apple a bigger threat than rival console maker Microsoft. In an interview with Forbes, Fils-Aime pointed to iPhone and iPod devices as Nintendo’s immediate competition for people’s time for playing games.
“Do I think that in the near term [Apple] can hurt us more than Microsoft? Absolutely,” said Fils-Aime.
The Nintendo of America chief sees similarly tough competition for a consumer’s attention in Facebook games, citing the makers of Farmville as another rival. It s all about time,” he said. “I compete with Zynga, I compete with surfing the net, I compete with the newspaper.
The remarks come after Apple reported 14.1 million iPhones sold in the three months up to September 25, following the iPhone 4 launch in June, which amounts to a 91 percent surge over the same three months last year. Sales of iPods have also been healthy, with 9.1 million sold in the same quarter, up 11 percent on the previous year. Lifetime sales of the iPad had also climbed to nearly 7.5 million units at the time.
Fils-Aime would have also been paying close attention in September when Apple claimed the “number one portable game player in the world” title for its iPod Touch at the press conference in which it unveiled Game Center, Apple’s gaming “social network”. At the time, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs hailed the iPod Touch’s lifetime sales figures as outdoing those of the Nintendo DS and PSP combined, and emphasized the 1.5 billion games (or ostensibly gamelike apps) sold to date.

Some of the social network’s biggest games have been sending user IDs to thirdparty companies. -
And on Wednesday for PS3.
EA is set to release a Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit demo this week. Xbox 360 owners can play from tomorrow and PS3 owners the day after.
But note that the demo will disappear on 9th November. Why? Because of online features that presumably clash with what the live servers will offer when Hot Pursuit launches on 19th November.
Specifically, you can test the game’s social network Autolog, which provides updates and challenges and keeps you abreast of what your friends are up to.
