Cologne-based gaming convention reports company attendance so far up 20% over 2010; many requesting more show floor space.
The Leipzig Games Convention may have officially called it quits, but the show that usurped its one-time glory has never been stronger. Today, organizers of Cologne, Germany’s Gamescom announced growing support for its annual game convention, with exhibitor numbers up 20 percent over a comparable point in 2010.
The exhibitor numbers are impressive, considering the 2010 show’s eventual attendance figures. All said, Gamescom 2010 attracted more than 254,000 attendees and 505 exhibitors, a feat which qualified it to be called the world’s largest gaming convention. Last year’s exhibitor attendance was itself up a substantial margin over 2009, when 458 companies displayed their wares.
Of those exhibitors, Gamescom has attracted many of the biggest names in gaming, including Electronic Arts, Konami, Namco Bandai, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Sega, Capcom, and Bethesda Softworks. These exhibitors are including Mexico, a first-time attendee “with a country-specific pavilion.” Event organizers also noted that many returning exhibitors have requested larger space over last year to accommodate the display of more products.
Gamescom 2011 will take place in Cologne from August 17-21. GameSpot will be on hand to provide updates from the show as they happen.
